Week TWO!

Hello 5D Families,

This week surely flew by!  We got into a more academic routine for math and literacy.  The students did a lot of thinking and brainstorming around classroom agreements in math and literacy.  We worked on other creative projects to bring the fifth grade hallway alive!  We can't wait to showcase it for you at Open House next Thursday the 14th.

Here's a glimpse into our week...

Math

  • We talked about math workshop and how speaking, listening, thinking and behavior should look like in each center
  • We learned about order of operations for a math project
  • We practiced transitions to each center
  • We learned the games 24 and Salute!

Literacy

  • Students brainstormed strategies on how to keep your eyes and mind in a book
  • Students brainstormed ways to become a stronger reader
  • We are reading The Honest Truth by Dan Gemeinhart as our read aloud

Social Hour with 5L

  • We talked about social media and the way people are portrayed online (it's never too early to start)
  • We discussed ways that social media can influence our life
  • Students received their Chromebooks and started a digital citizenship program by Google called, "Be Internet Awesome"

STEM

  • Students worked in groups to create an Army Man Launcher
  • We competed as classrooms in a whole fifth grade activity

What a fantastic first day!!!

Hello friends and families of 5D!

I hope your child came home as excited about this school year as I feel right now!  We had such an amazing day!  Please check out some pictures from our table groups, a STEM activity with 5L and celebrating our NEW YEAR in fifth grade!  We ended our day with a whole fifth grade group game! Ask your child all about the day!

Tonight your children have a lot of papers for you to look through.  Please have them return them tomorrow.  The students also got an Artifact Museum explanation to be ready for Thursday.  No worries... I'll ease them into the new school year. :)

Please let me know if you have any questions.  I feel so fortunate to have all 22 children!

Until tomorrow....

Welcome to 5D for 2017-2018!

Hello all new students and families to 5D!

I am beyond excited for the start of our school year and have been busy buying supplies and getting our classroom started.  I truly look forward to meeting you and having all of us make our classroom our home.

Please take the classroom survey.  This will help me get to know each and every one of you.  Here is the link to it!

Three things to do this summer...

1.  Subscribe to the blog!
2.  Take the survey
3.  Collect pictures and personal things that are meaningful for you to put together in a classroom project

And the last thing I want you all to do is....

RELAX and ENJOY the rest of your summer!

See you August 28th!

THANK YOU!!!! June 20, 2017

To all the friends and families of 5D,

I'd like to take this time to say thank you for all your generous gifts, thoughtful notes and support throughout the year.  I am going to miss each and every student so incredibly much.  I hope they all come back and visit next year!  I feel so grateful to love my job, my students, my team and school! I'm truly lucky!

Here are a few pictures from Odiorne.  Also there's a picture of Sophie G who painted a gorgeous picture as a parting gift for SMS.  Amazing creativity!  Thank you so much Sophie for leaving your mark on SMS.

I hope to see all of you at some point this summer!

Love,

Shannon DeLello

End of the Year Information

To all the fantastic, supportive families of 5D,

I can hardly believe the end of the year is upon us!  I find myself getting emotional about all my students (plus Sean) moving on.  It's a double whammy for me.  I'm not sure how I'm going to hold it together at the ceremony tomorrow night and the walk out on Tuesday!

Having said that, let's go over a few details about our last two days...

Memory Books

Please have your child bring their Memory Book back in on Tuesday.  I'll be writing in them then.  I didn't want to rush last Friday as I want to make my message personal to each student. :)

Odiorne

  • Make sure your child has lunch, drinks, sunscreen, hat
  • Water shoes for tide pooling
  • Change of clothes and towel (no bathing suits)
  • If you do plan on going and taking your child home, you MUST fill out a form in the office
5th Grade Celebration
  • Gymnasium
  • Have your child meet the teachers in the library no earlier than 6:15
  • Ceremony starts at 6:30
Walk out on Tuesday
  • We will begin walking at 2:30
  • Be outside at 2:40
Please let me know if you have any questions at all!
