Week of February 17-21

Happy Friday, 5DL Families!

We had a busy week.  Kids have been working hard in their Colony Families researching the history of their colony to become experts for all the other colonies.

As a team we have talked to the fifth graders about expectations in every part of our school day.  The students have brainstormed a list of expectations and we talked a lot about respect for yourself, others as well as materials.  The students have begun to write all about what respect is, why it is important and how we can show it. This writing will continue after vacation.

This is a work in progress and any support/discussions at home would be greatly appreciated.  We want to help set our students up for success in life. Respect is a huge part of this.

We hope you have a wonderful February break!  See you March 2nd!

Happy Friday, 5DL Families!

It has been such a great two weeks having Mrs. Loh back in the classroom!  5DL has spent so much time together and we are loving it. We are fully immersed in our colonization unit and each student has been placed in a colonial family.  Families are competing to earn money to help with creating their colony in the new world.

Math:
-worked on fraction review from 4th grade
-mixed and improper fractions
-comparing and ordering fractions
-simplifying fractions and finding equivalent fractions
-ask your child about FAMILY COLONIAL MATH!

Literacy
-MixBooks are almost complete
-Any student who is not done by Friday will have to complete at home over the weekend
-We will be placing our mixbook orders next Friday
-More details about ordering to come

Social Studies
-We began our colonization unit in 5DL
-Students remembered all about our first unit, 3 Worlds Meet to begin understanding colonization
-Students were placed in colonial families and each randomly picked one of the original colonies
-Families are earning colonial currency with some fun trivia!
-Ask your child all about it!  We are having a blast!
