This week surely flew by! We got into a more academic routine for math and literacy. The students did a lot of thinking and brainstorming around classroom agreements in math and literacy. We worked on other creative projects to bring the fifth grade hallway alive! We can't wait to showcase it for you at Open House next Thursday the 14th.
Here's a glimpse into our week...
Math
- We talked about math workshop and how speaking, listening, thinking and behavior should look like in each center
- We learned about order of operations for a math project
- We practiced transitions to each center
- We learned the games 24 and Salute!
Literacy
- Students brainstormed strategies on how to keep your eyes and mind in a book
- Students brainstormed ways to become a stronger reader
- We are reading The Honest Truth by Dan Gemeinhart as our read aloud
Social Hour with 5L
- We talked about social media and the way people are portrayed online (it's never too early to start)
- We discussed ways that social media can influence our life
- Students received their Chromebooks and started a digital citizenship program by Google called, "Be Internet Awesome"
STEM
- Students worked in groups to create an Army Man Launcher
- We competed as classrooms in a whole fifth grade activity
