September 16-21

Happy Friday, 5DL families!

Wow!  These kids are really into the swing of things in 5DL!!!  We are so impressed with their growth, maturity and positivity that is just multiplying every day!

Love, Mrs. Loh and Mrs. DeLello

*Literacy
-The students worked on their poems “Where I’m From”
-We added details in using the five senses
-Students self edited and then shared with partners
-Students typed a final draft using creative colors, text etc...

*Math
-Students worked so hard this week on the Math Menu
-We are reviewing place value/introducing decimals
-Students complete a teacher lesson, technology piece as well as practice
-Students played game to help master number sense and fact fluency

*Social Studies
-The student learned about the 5 themes of geography
-Ask your child all about Flocabulary (we love learning by song)
-Students learned about the different identities and perspectives in the same
event
-Students worked in teams to share on SeeSaw about an event with different
identities and perspectives

*Community
-As a 5DL community we met to talk about how it is, in fact, COOL to CARE
about school and learning!
-We discussed ways to show how you care about all the parts of your school
day
*Read Aloud:
-Scar Island by Dan Gemeinhart is getting soooo good
-Ask about Jonathan and the librarian

*Important Dates
-Open House is October 3rd (timeframe coming soon)
-Students will lead parents through this nights in the classrooms
-Early Release, October 11th DISMISSAL AT 11:50
-Picture Retakes: October 24th

*Stem Activity
-The students worked in groups of four to empty a tube of toothpaste as
quickly possible
-They then had to attempt to get it all back into the tube...this was clearly
difficult!
-We then read the book Each Kindness
-Students then brainstormed in small groups how they could show kindness
in our 5DL community
-Students understood the toothpaste tube signified when words/actions are
said/done, it is hard to take back

*Student Council Reps:
-On Friday, students interested in running for student council stood in front
of their peers and delivered speeches
-We then voted for two representatives, one from 5L and one from 5D
-Everyone who participated did a fantastic job!
-Congratulations to Nina M in 5D and Izzy M in 5L
