I cannot believe we have been in school for four weeks already! These students have worked so hard and we are into the full swing of our curriculum and happenings in 5th grade. Here are a few things we did this week!
Math:
- Continued with decimals (place value, what they look like, standard, expanded and word form)
- Started Prodigy (an online math game for students to further their thinking)
- Compared and ordered decimals
- Reflected on our progress/growth in math this week
Literacy:
- Brainstormed what makes a quality sticky when reflecting on your reading
- Browsed books for our book clubs that will be starting next week
- Brainstormed TURNING POINTS of our life that could become dramatic narratives
- Wrote long and strong off a sticky with a claim and supporting evidence
- Reflected on our growth in reading so far this year
Read Aloud
- Finished The Honest Truth and boy, was it a tear jerker
- Used this book to model all our thinking, writing and reading in literacy
Social Studies with 5L
- Started looking at the continents to see the location of the Three Worlds
- Read about America before Columbus
- Watched a video that depicted time before exploration
- Took notes in a number of organizational ways
This afternoon we worked on a mini project involving... "What KINDNESS is..." The students all jotted down their definition of what it is and some of their thoughts made me warm inside. You should all be se proud of the children you have raised. They are among the kindest, most sincere kids I've had the pleasure of teaching!
Important Dates!!!
We have our first EARLY RELEASE this Wednesday. Students dismissed at 12:50!
SHP Team Building next Friday! Students need appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather as well as lunch, snacks and plenty of water.
