Week of 3/28-4/1

Families and Friends of 5D,

Happy April Fools Day!  Make sure you ask your child about our trickery today.  Ms. Hodgdon and I had a lot of fun!  Here are other things we did this week.

  • In math, we learned about triangles and quadrilaterals.  We've changed our centers to get prepped and ready for Smarter Balanced.  5D and 5H combined centers so that everyone will learn a new skill with the teacher then visit two other centers to review a skill previously taught.
  • In literacy students have added counter arguments into their writing.  They all self assessed then printed out their final, best copy to be assessed by me.  We started looking at student writing for Smarter Balanced.  Groups decided what makes writing a 4, 3, 2 or 1.
  • Maze Runner by James Dashner is going well.  The students seem to be enjoying it so far!
  • We finished our read aloud about King George!  Students have almost completed the timeline.  We planned out events we'd like to include in our play.  Students will be planning the play over the next few weeks.  Details to follow.
  • We started something called ClassCraft.  It's an interactive way for students to earn points for positive behaviors and expectations.  Ask your child about it as they've all been working hard to level up!

Mrs. Hanson came into all classes to introduce Pictavo for our Memory Book.  Everyone took home an explanation of how to get an account (through a parent's email).  I plan on using morning work time for students to access and work on their 1/2 page.

Smarter Balanced starts next Thursday, 4/7-4/20.  I told students I will not be assigning any homework during this.  Here is our specific schedule.

4/7 ELA 1  10:30-12
4/8 ELA 2  10:30-12
4/11 ELA PT 10:30-12
4/14 ELA PT 10:30-12
4/15 Math 1 10:30-12
4/18 Math 2 10:30-12

Conference reminders went home this week.  I look forward to seeing all of you soon!

Shannon
