Week of December 16-20

Happy Friday 5DL Families!

Well, December flew by!  I cannot believe we have arrived to winter break!  Make sure to have a wonderful time off with your child and make lots of memories.  I will see all of them again on Thursday, January 2nd, 2020!!!

Math

-We began our unit with divisibility rules
-All practiced the steps to traditional division
-Some students are working with one digit divisors, others with two
-Pairing students up has been beneficial for motivation
-I’m proud of their growth mindset in this unit!

Literacy

-We discovered a lot of non-fiction text structures
-Students worked together on a text structure scavenger hunt
-Reading has primarily been high interest non-fiction books

Science
-Students worked in pairs to research how our universe is set up and then created a poster about it

Lauren Barney read a book about Type 1 Diabetes to the class.  The students (myself included) had lots of questions for her! She answered them beautifully!  We all have a better understanding of T1D and what Lauren does each and every day! Thank you Lauren!!!!  See pictures below.

Wolfpack Assembly

-We had a whole school assembly on Tuesday afternoon and the fifth grade ran it.  Avery and Lauren spoke on behalf of 5D to remind the whole school about our Assembly Expectations.  They did a wonderful job. This whole assembly was about gratitude. We shared gratitudes, sang a song about having a gratitude attitude and then enjoyed a fun baby shark activity.  The 5th graders were role models to all and should be proud of themselves.

As a class we said goodbye to Avery!  Avery will be attending Newfields Elementary School after the vacation!  Until we meet again, Avery….. at CMS!!!!!! We will miss you tons!

Goodbye Avery!!!

Gabriel and Avery hug it out!

Lauren reads to the class!
